Enjoy the group, based at the Site of Sendai Castle, appearing in a wide range of events and festivals around the country, as well as appearances on television and radio, and on overseas expedition.
The Datebushotai is made up of Date Masamune, known as a one-eyed dragon and the distinctive vassals who served him. These include the warlord of martial arts Date Shigezane, the warlord of knowledge Katakura Kojuro Kagetsuna, the warlord of officialdom Moniwa Tsunamoto, Katakura Kojuro Shigetsuna who served the third generation of Date Family, Hasekura Tsunenaga, who served as Date’s diplomatic mission, Matsuo Basho who travelled the Michinoku region, and Hata who is a female Ninja.

The feudal Lord Date’s castle, Sendai Castle, also known as Aoba Castle, was built on solid stone. The Datebushotai uses the Site of Sendai Castle, offering panoramic views of the city, as the base for their activities. They welcome tourists near the statue of Masamune on horseback by providing formation regarding Sendai Castle, the creation of the town during the reign of the period, commentary of the castle and stone walls, as well as giving performances.

The Datebushotai welcomes tourists and provides tourist information twice a month at the Sendai City Tourist Information Center, located on the 2nd floor of the JR Sendai Station. They provide general sightseeing information of the City of Sendai from transportation to speciality products. The unique advice from the Datebushotai perspective will ensure your trip to Sendai will be even better and more enjoyable.

A variety of events are available to inform people about the attractions of Sendai such as taking a ‘City Walking Tour’ with the Datebushotai to explore Sendai, as well as “Hasekura Night”, an original event where Hasekura Tsunenaga unravels history. In addition, the group also organizes a ‘Sendai VR Tour’ which uses virtual reality to let the tourist experience the history and culture left by Lord Masamune. The “New Experience of Date History” is a walking tour introducing historical buildings from the feudal era that remain in every part of the city using virtual reality. Information about the history of Sendai, sightseeing and gourmet as well as the Date Culture is provided.
Meet them at Events and Festivals
Sendai, known as the City of Trees, holds seasonal festivals and events. The Datebushotai introduces the charm of Sendai to many people by participation at the “Sendai International Half Marathon” and “Sendai Aoba Festival” in the early summer, the “Sendai Tanabata Festival” in August, the “SENDAI Pageant of Starlight” in winter, as well as international sporting events.

A free magazine featuring Date culture called Datebushotai Kawaraban, listing Sendai's history, sightseeing, gourmet information, and activities of the Datebushotai, is published every two months. It is available in the central shopping district of Sendai City, hotel and other city facilities.
